Get more at a glance. The available color Head-Up Display (HUD) uses aircraft-inspired technology to project important information about your drive directly in front of you on the windshield. The color display can show your speed and energy monitor info, while also giving turn-by-turn directions, so you can stay focused on what’s ahead.
The Automatic High Beams (AHB) feature is a safety system designed to help you see more clearly at night — without distracting other drivers. Designed to activate at speeds above 25 mph, AHB relies on an in-vehicle camera to help detect the headlights of oncoming vehicles and taillights of preceding vehicles, then automatically toggles between high and low beams accordingly to provide the appropriate amount of light. By using high beams more frequently, the system may allow earlier detection of pedestrians and obstacles.
The power of using less to get more. Prius Prime features a Toyota-first dual motor drive system that uses both motors to propel Prime. The result is a boost in acceleration feel, enhanced efficiency and the added benefit of EV Mode at full highway speeds. It helps deliver an exhilarating experience and makes the drive toward tomorrow even more exciting.
Prime's multi-link rear suspension helps you master those tight corners with ease. Its revised design expands cargo area space, which means you get a ride that's smooth and responsive with enough room to do more.
A solid chassis means Prius Prime was built to be confident. With increased torsional rigidity from laser screw welding, high-tensile-strength steel and uniquely shaped frame structures, Prime offers a ride that’s comfortable, yet ready to take control in and out of every corner.
The low-slung design of Prime’s chassis is built with a lower center of gravity. Its responsive suspension and well-balanced weight distribution results in fun-to-drive agility that wants to hug every curve of the road.
More efficiency. More potential. Every last detail of Prius Prime has been optimized to help make it the most advanced — and efficient — Prius yet. Cutting-edge, lightweight materials, proven hybrid technology and an optimized Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle (PHV) system all work together to help Prius Prime reach an impressive, class-leading EPA-estimated 133 MPGe. Prime also continues to help you challenge what’s possible by reaching an EPA-estimated total driving range of 640 miles. Imagine all the places you’ll go with Toyota’s legendary hybrid technology that invites you to do even more.
This available intelligent technology, called Predictive Fuel-Efficient Drive, helps boost fuel efficiency by learning your routine stopping patterns. When approaching a recorded stop, an icon will display on the map of the navigation system and suggest the optimal time to release the accelerator. Regenerative braking also activates sooner to recover more energy for the hybrid battery.
No detail is too small as Prime’s rear hatch is made of strong yet lightweight carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer, a first for Toyota. This material allows for advanced performance, and makes opening and closing the hatch virtually effortless. Advanced materials like these help increase efficiency and elevate your drive.
Prime offers three driving modes so that the driver stays in control: EV Auto Mode, EV Mode and HV Mode. EV Auto Mode intelligently selects between EV and hybrid driving based on demand and driving conditions to optimize your efficiency. EV Mode relies on EV driving to maximize efficiency, all the way up to full highway speeds. HV Mode efficiently combines the gas engine and EV power from the HV battery to drive Prime.
The available charging cable lock gives you peace of mind when you charge up at a public charging station. The charge port has been equipped with a lock mechanism to help keep your charging cable securely locked so that your charge won’t be interrupted. When you’re ready, it will only unlock when your Smart Key is present.
Prius Prime makes charging at home simple and more convenient than ever. In fact, there’s no need for special equipment—the charging cable is included, and it takes less than five-and-a-half hours to get a full charge using a standard household outlet. And charge scheduling allows you to schedule your charge in advance, allowing you to take advantage of off-peak electricity rates. You can forget about range anxiety—when your battery is low, and with gas in your tank, Prime can reliably get you where you’re going with its proven gas hybrid engine.
Maximize your efficiency by charging your Prime as often as possible. Public charging stations can provide a quicker charge so you’ll only need approximately two hours and ten minutes for a full charge from a 240V outlet. You can search for nearby charging stations, including tens of thousands of ChargePoint stations, on the available 11.6-in. HD multimedia display or on your smartphone through the available Prime apps.
Charge scheduling allows you to schedule your charge in advance. As you park, available Intelligent Clearance Sonar (ICS) is designed to scan for stationary objects like walls or posts that are within close proximity. If Prime anticipates a collision, an audible and visual alert will politely notify you, engine or motor output will slow down, and if needed, brakes will automatically be applied to help bring Prime to a halt. Available Intelligent Parking Assist (IPA) helps you navigate and conquer those difficult parking situations. Prime will automatically control the steering wheel, while you control the gas and brake, and help guide you into an open parking space.
With Prime’s available Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charging, you can charge your Qi-compatible smartphone or other compatible device without wires or worry. Place it on the nonslip holder and charge up before getting to your destination.
Using an in-vehicle camera and radar to help detect a vehicle or a pedestrian in front of you, the Pre-Collision System (PCS) with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD) can help you mitigate or avoid a potential collision. If the system determines that a frontal collision is likely, it prompts you to take action using audio and visual alerts. If you notice the potential collision and apply the brakes, PCS w/PD may apply additional force using Brake Assist (BA). If you don’t brake in time, it may automatically apply the brakes to reduce your speed, helping to minimize the likelihood of a frontal collision or reduce its severity.
Intended for highways and similar to “constant speed” cruise control, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) lets you drive at a preset speed. DRCC uses vehicle-to-vehicle distance control, which adjusts your speed, to help you maintain a preset distance from vehicles ahead of you that are driving at a slower speed. DRCC uses a front-grille-mounted radar and an in-vehicle camera to detect vehicles and their distance. If a driver is traveling slower than you, or within your preset range, DRCC will automatically slow your vehicle down without deactivating cruise control. If DRCC determines you need to slow down more, an audio and visual alert notifies you and brakes are applied. When there’s no longer a vehicle driving slower than your set speed in front of you, DRCC will then accelerate and regular cruise control will resume. Prius Prime features Full-Speed Range DRCC, which is designed to operate between 0-110 mph. However, vehicle speed must be above approximately 28 mph to initiate DRCC. This enables low-speed following, matching speed and, under certain circumstances, stopping before colliding with preceding vehicles on highways.
Under certain circumstances, Lane Departure Alert (LDA) is designed to detect lane departure on roads with visible lane markings. LDA only activates when you’re traveling at a speed of 32 mph or faster. When you hear and see the alert, after carefully checking the road around you, you should safely direct your vehicle back to the center of your lane. In addition, Toyota vehicles equipped with Toyota Safety Sense™ P (TSS-P) and Electronic Power Steering (EPS) include Steering Assist functionality. When it’s activated and senses that you’re unintentionally drifting, the system may automatically make small corrective steering inputs to help keep your vehicle in its lane.
The Automatic High Beams (AHB) feature is a safety system designed to help the driver see more clearly at night — while reducing glare for other drivers. By using high beams more frequently, the system may allow for earlier detection of pedestrians and obstacles. When activated, AHB is designed to rely on an in-vehicle camera to help detect the headlights of oncoming vehicles and taillights of proceeding vehicles, then automatically toggle between high and low beams.
Watching out for you. In Reverse, Prime’s available Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA) uses sensors to detect vehicles approaching from either side. If the system senses cross traffic, it warns you by flashing the side mirror indicators and sounding a warning tone.
See more of what matters. When a vehicle in the next lane enters your vehicle’s blind spot on either side, the available Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) is designed to illuminate the indicator in that sideview mirror. If you continue to signal a lane change to that lane, the indicator will flash to get your attention.
When in Reverse, Prime’s standard integrated backup camera uses a wide-angle lens to display a larger viewing area. Clearly marked lines on the screen show the distance guidelines, giving you more confidence to get out of any spot—tricky or not.
